You know you have found a toddler friendly eats destination when there is a row of parent car parks right near the front entrance!

Especially For the Kids…..

There are a number of subtle hints that The Wattle do a good job catering for families:

  • Parents parking right near the entrance as mentioned above
  • A couple of permanent baby change table in the main toilet facilities
  • Staff are super welcoming to kids and quick to offer high chairs, colouring-in paper and pencils when you arrive.
  • But the big drawcard is the….

Kids Room / Playground

The Wattle has an indoor kid’s room with a kids and infants playground that has been a drawcard for local families for some time. The Kids Playground area is reserved for children aged between 4 to 12 years of age.

Sadly the playground has was closed for a long period due to COVID and more recently and more excitedly for renovation.

The renovations are now complete and the new kids playground and family eating area is open! The playground features lots to climb, tunnel and multiple slides. The new playground is more suitable for bigger kids but would be of interest to more adventurous toddlers. At the moment The Wattle playground does not really have anything for infants and small non-adventurous toddlers.

The playground space has it’s own attached dining area which is awesome. You can enjoy a meal and a bit of peace and quiet whilst the kids play. The room has acoustic paneling so the kids can play loudly without bothering patrons in the main bistro eating areas.

The Food

The Wattle has all the usual classic Pub Bistro menu favourites. You will find something for every member of the family. The menu includes Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan options. Kid’s meals are reasonably priced and there are 5 options to choose from.

Specials

Like a lot of local pubs and taverns since COVID the weekly specials have not returned from what I can find. We will keep our peeled and let you know when they are available again at The Wattle and at other good kid friendly pubs and taverns on the Gold Coast.

Atmosphere and Staff

The Wattle Hotel is huge – large open space with lots of different areas within the large bistro area to choose to sit and dine. The staff were so welcoming and seemed to really want to make your visit a good one. Of all the toddler friendly eats options we have visited and recommended The Wattle staff offered some of the best service out of all of them.

Events

The Wattle Hotel often has events with activities for kids for things like Easter, St Paddy’s Day etc. Keep an eye on their Facebook Page and Website for upcoming events.

Kid’s Party Venue

With the great enclosed kids room with the playground and affordable kids meals I think The Wattle is a great venue for a kid’s birthday party. The new kids playground and attached dining space is available for kid’s parties. Contact The Wattle directly for details.

Toddler Review

The new kids playground area is now open at The Wattle. Due to current COVID restrictions I highly suggest you phone or book online (see details in top green square) before your visit to avoid disappointment as The Wattle has specific capacity restrictions to adhere to. When restrictions lift I am sure The Wattle will be a popular destination for families and so worth booking ahead as a general rule.

The new playground and attached dining area are really impressive. In my opinion the playground is better suited for bigger children as there is a lot of climbing and tunnels. Fletcher and Harper aren’t the most adventurous children so I often worry if I might need to squeeze into the tight playground spaces to retrieve my scared children!

The real stand out for The Wattle Hotel is there wonderful staff  – when we last visited every member of the team I spoke to was just so great and offered me options and suggested – all to make our visit better. It was really memorable because of their efforts.

The Wattle is a really family friendly dining destination with affordable meals, specific areas for families to dine and fantastic staff so I would highly recommend you book to have a meal try out the new space and see if your toddler likes the new playground.

What to pack (suggestions)

  • Snacks (back-up if there are any meal delays)
  • Wipes for spills and toddler clean-up
  • Bibs (if out for dinner and your toddlers are bathed and ready for bed)
  • Tablet / phone or dinner table friendly toys for back up
